Driving around Los Angeles

August 27th, 2009

Sunday I took a leisure drive around the city.  I started on Beverly Glenn went through Benedict Canyon and was amazed at the scenery.   If you know me you know I love trees.  Benedict Canyon is full of awesome stately trees.  The trees line both sides of the road and extend across the drive into each other forming a “tree hug”.  What a glorious sight.   I enjoyed the short ride around the city and decided to look for out of the way interesting little parks several times a month.  Nature will always uplift you, and boy do we need uplifting these days.

In July I went to New Mexico to attend my cousin’s  wedding.  It was my first trip to the State.  While I found NM clean, interesting, and the people very friendly, I still felt there was something missing.  My cousin lives in a great upscale development and while standing in front of his huge home taking in the beauty of the sky, it came to me, there is nothing GREEN in NM.  My eyes then scanned the area and noticed there was no grass, trees or plants,  with the exception of a few cactus plants scattered around in several yards. Most of the yards were filled with pebbles.  I found this very strange and for someone who loves parks and trees, quite disturbing.  I understand the rationale that it’s too hot for grass and trees but is NM any hotter than Arizona, California?
